This Women's History Month the Library is honoring and celebrating women's health and wellness with LadyFest 2020. We’re kicking things off on Friday, March 6 from Noon – 4 p.m. at the Downtown Main Library by providing valuable on-site resources to female-identifying individuals of all ages and backgrounds, with representatives from various local and national organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Ohio Equity Institute, Hoxworth Blood Center, Planned Parenthood, Healthy Mom's and Babes, Crossport Cincinnati, and many more to educate and provide services. Additionally, various organizations, including Caracole, will be present on Vine Street with mobile diagnostic services to provide basic health screenings. The event will provide kid-friendly activities as well—all are welcome!

“It is vital that women are able to access equitable health care resources in their communities,” said Krystine Salyers, who co-planned the kickoff event. “We felt that wasn't something we were seeing and it was something we could change. Last year we put on our first health fair and it went so well, we knew we had to do it again. This year we strove even harder to be sure that we were offering women health resources all across the board. We want women to find what they need physically, emotionally, and mentally.”  To fill those needs, the Library will have community organizations that specialize in services for all individuals who identify as women no matter their age, race, ability, or socio-economic background.

Because a single day isn’t enough to celebrate women, this year the team decided to fill the month with events that would continue the celebration until the end of March. Check out the LadyFest events happening all month at various branches below!

“I hope that LadyFest allows people in the community to see the opportunities that are already established and available to them,” said co-planner and Teen Librarian Emma Willig. “Even in our world of technology and social media, the word doesn’t always reach every corner for all businesses and community organizations. For me, the Library is a perfect place to convene and share information about the events and various partnerships that are already happening in Cincinnati. I had so much fun last year seeing folks from all walks of life come together for this event, and I’m excited to see new partnerships develop after this year’s LadyFest.”

The Library is not only a place for women, femmes, and female-identifying folks but a place for all people to be seen and heard. “The LadyFest project team firmly believes in supporting movements that highlight all people,” said Willig. “When we empower one another, all we can do is win!”
